Precautions and interactions

Supplements can interact with medicines. Read this first. Not being on this list does not mean cleared: if you take anything daily, show this page to your pharmacist.

The common ones

  • Acid reducers (omeprazole, pantoprazole, famotidine). Keep taking your prescription; this is not a replacement for it. Long-term acid reducers can lower magnesium, which is one reason magnesium is in the base.
  • Statins. We found no documented interaction with these ingredients.

Ask your clinician first if you take

  • Blood thinners or antiplatelet medicines. Ginger has mild antiplatelet activity.
  • Thyroid medicine. Magnesium binds levothyroxine and lowers how much of it you absorb. Leave four hours between your thyroid dose and Cool.
  • Blood pressure medicine or a diuretic. The licorice here is deglycyrrhizinated, which removes the compound responsible for those effects, but say it out loud to your clinician anyway.
  • A separate zinc supplement. Zinc taken at higher totals over long periods can lower copper. Five milligrams a day is modest; stacked with another supplement it may not be.
  • Anything for kidney disease. Magnesium is cleared by the kidneys.

Do not take

  • If you are allergic to tree nuts. Mastic gum is the resin of Pistacia lentiscus, the same genus as the pistachio. This is the one allergen in the MGB+ line and it is the largest ingredient in this bottle.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your clinician has said otherwise.
  • If you are under 18.
  • If you have reacted to any ingredient in section 3.

Stop and get advice if

  • Burning that gets worse rather than better after the first two weeks.
  • Any rash, swelling, itching of the mouth or difficulty breathing. Given the mastic gum, treat that as an allergic reaction and an emergency, not a support email.
  • Loose stools that continue past the first few days.
